Authentic Full-Size Great Schema

The Great Schema (Megaloschema) is a profound symbol of the angelic life and the highest grade of Orthodox monasticism. This full-sized garment is perfectly suited for the sacred rite of the Great Schema tonsure, as well as for wearing during divine services.

Design & Craftsmanship

Every element of this schema has been thoughtfully designed by our own monastic brotherhood. We do not use outsourced or mass-produced patterns; the rich, traditional red embroideries found on this garment are all 100% designed by our monastery.

  • Traditional Colors: Rich, vibrant red embroidery set against durable black fabric, symbolizing the blood of Christ, martyrdom, and death to the world.
  • Byzantine Greek Text: All embroidered text and theological symbols are rendered in traditional Byzantine Greek script.
  • Secure Fit: Features two firmly sewn-in apron strings, allowing the wearer to tie the schema securely around the waist.
  • Universal Design: Appropriately tailored and suitable for both Orthodox monks and nuns.

A Note on Everyday Wear

While this full-size Great Schema is traditionally made and can be worn at all times, many monastics find a smaller version of the great schema which can be hung from the neck and worn underneath the cassock (rason) more suitable for everyday wear.
