Description
A Legacy of the Holy Mountain
This Antimension is a direct link to the liturgical heritage of Mount Athos. It is a remaster of a specific, historical design that originated on the Holy Mountain, preserving the original date of 1870 printed on the cloth. The central Epitaphios scene is surrounded by a rich border featuring icons of the Divine Economy, the Evangelists, and the Holy Sepulchre, all rendered in a beautiful, antique monochrome style with ancient Greek script.
To highlight this historic design, our brotherhood has added a striking crimson red outline, creating a bold and dignified frame.
Remastered & Prepared by Monks
At the Sacred Monastery of St. John of the Ladder in Boetia, Greece, we have worked to preserve this piece of Athonite history. We have carefully restored the clarity of the original 19th-century prototype while maintaining its aged, authentic character.
Custom Backing Options
We offer this Antimension in two formats to suit your specific liturgical needs:
- With Red Backing: Our brotherhood will hand-sew a traditional red iliton backing onto the Antimension in our workshop, ensuring a secure, durable, and professional finish ready for regular use.
- Without Backing (Cloth Only): This option includes a generous white border for you to sew your own backing. This is the required choice if the Antimension is intended for the Consecration of a Temple, preventing any risk of color run from the holy chrism and oils used during the rite.
