Description
The Scent of Costly Devotion
Of all the fragrances mentioned in the Holy Gospels, Nard (Spikenard) is the most poignant. It is the scent of a singular, profound act of love and repentance. The aroma of our Athonite Nard Incense is earthy, musky, and deeply complex—a fragrance that is not merely pleasant, but is ancient and deeply serious. It is an aroma that helps create an atmosphere of reverence and humility, serving as a fragrant reminder of the heartfelt repentance and commitment to virtue that is most precious to our Lord.
A Labor of Prayer & Tradition
As an offering from our monastery, this incense is handcrafted in a spirit of prayer, honoring the centuries-old Athonite traditions:
- We begin with pure Ethiopian frankincense, ground to a fine, golden powder.
- This powder is saturated with a high-quality, fragrant nard oil and kneaded by hand into a dough.
- The mixture is carefully rolled, dusted with magnesia for a perfect consistency, and cut into small pieces.
- Finally, the incense is cured for over 30 days, allowing the rich aromas to fully mature into the sublime fragrance we offer to you.
An Offering of Faith
When you bring this incense into your home, you are doing more than making a purchase—you are participating in our story. The proceeds from our handiwork directly sustain our self-funded monastic brotherhood and support the monastery that we rebuilt, by the grace of God, after it was destroyed in an earthquake. We thank you for your support of our mission.
