Originating from the rich iconographic tradition of the Byzantine Empire, the design has been carefully remastered at the Sacred Monastery of St. John of the Ladder in Boetia, Greece, to preserve its spiritual significance and beauty.
Monastery Preparation & Optional Backing:
- Remastered Byzantine Design: We have meticulously remastered this Byzantine design, ensuring clarity, detail, and faithfulness to the original iconographical intent and color palette.
- Hand-Applied Red Backing (Optional): You can choose to receive your antimension with or without a hand-applied red backing. Prepared in our monastery workshop, the red backing provides a secure and elegant finish.
- Generous White Border for Sewing: A practical white border is included, allowing for easy sewing of your own backing if you would prefer to sew your own. The option without backing is offered for those who want antimension for use during the rite of the consecration of a temple, as the essential oils used in this rite can run from the antimension and stain the backing. In such cases it is preferable to sew a backing on after the antimension has been used in the consecration of the temple.
