Description
“The Sun Hid Its Rays…”
This exceptional Antimension presents the traditional and beloved iconography of the Epitaphios—the wrapping of the Lord’s Body by Joseph of Arimathea and the Holy Myrrhbearers. However, it is distinguished by powerful background details that set the scene within the cosmic mourning of the Passion.
Behind the central figures, the walls of Jerusalem stand silent, while two ladders rest against the empty Cross, signifying the completed Descent. Most skillfully, the iconographer has depicted the scriptural darkening of the skies: in the top left, the sun and moon are shrouded, hiding their light. Framed by a classic olive-green border, this cloth is a profound visual meditation.

Custom Backing Options
We offer this Antimension in two formats to suit your specific liturgical needs:
- With Red Backing: Our brotherhood will hand-sew a traditional red iliton backing onto the Antimension in our workshop, ensuring a secure, durable, and professional finish ready for regular use.
- Without Backing (Cloth Only): This option includes a generous white border for you to sew your own backing. This is the required choice if the Antimension is intended for the Consecration of a Temple, preventing any risk of color run from the holy chrism and oils used during the rite.
